I decided to take a few frames from the hives.
Hive 1, which overwintered has been collecting pollen like crazy, but their honey stores are a little weak, so I did not take anything from them.
Hive 2, our package of bees installed in March, are producing honey, though it is not a ton. Their Queen is a super producer of larvae, so I added a box of frames and took one medium frame of honey.
Our nuc hive, Hive 3, is massively producing honey, bees, and collecting pollen. I was able to take 2 deep frames of honey.
Today, I spent time uncapping the wax, testing the humidity level in the honey, spinning the frames, and straining and bottling honey. It has been exciting and exhausting at the same time! I think after all was done, I had over 150 oz or about 9 pounds of honey! It is sweet, but not overly sweet. It has a darker color, and a hint of caramel. It’s delish!
